Quarter Auction set for October 9th

Get ready for an evening of thrilling bids and community spirit! Join us for an exciting Quarter Auction Fundraiser on Thursday, October 9th, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Clayton Civitan Club. This lively event is all about fun, fantastic finds, and most importantly, supporting a vital cause: Serve The Need in Johnston County!

A Quarter Auction is a uniquely engaging event that blends the excitement of an auction with the thrill of a raffle.

Here’s how YOU can join the fun:
Purchase a numbered paddle (up to two per person!) when you arrive. Throughout the evening, we’ll showcase a wide array of brand-new items, delightful gift baskets, and valuable services generously donated by local businesses and community members. When an item you’re keen on is presented, you’ll place your “bid” by dropping 1 to 4 quarters into a bucket at your table (the exact number depends on the item’s value) and raising your paddle high. If your paddle number is drawn, you win that item for mere pennies!

Doors open at 5:30 PM, giving you plenty of time to register, grab your paddles, and browse all the incredible items available for bid. The fast-paced auction action will kick off promptly thereafter, so be sure to arrive on time! This is a wonderful opportunity to win amazing goods, enjoy a night out with friends, and make a tangible difference in our community. Every quarter you bid directly contributes to Serve The Need in Johnston County’s vital mission of [ADA ramp building, Local Food Distribution, JCC Student emergency fund, Teacher Gift Cards and MORE]

2025 Clayton Steakhouse Fundraiser

Serve the Need’s 2025 Clayton Steakhouse fundraiser is slated to be held on Monday October 20th. It is always very successful! Special thanks to the leadership and staff of Clayton Steakhouse for their support of Serve the Need and for helping us raise funds on a day they are typically closed! We also thank everyone who bought a ticket in the past and we look forward to an even better fundraiser this year and we invite you to join us!

STN receives grant money

The Woman’s Club of Clayton has received a $25,000 Ray Bryan Award to support programs that serve children.

The club will split the money equally among three groups — Clayton Area Ministries, Backpack Buddies and Serve the Need Johnston County.  Each group will receive $8,333.33 for their organization.

The award came from the RYE Foundation.

“Our club is so grateful to be the recipients of this generous grant,” said club President Betsy Grannis. “We look forward to being good stewards of these funds to benefit these wonderful organizations.”

The RYE Foundation has ties to Clayton. J. Warren Steen, the foundation’s president since 2001, grew up in Clayton, and his mother, Mrs. John W. Steen, was president of the Woman’s Club from 1967 to 1968. His father was a former pastor of Clayton’s First Baptist Church. 

The RYE Foundation awarded the grant in honor of Mrs. Steen and “as a challenge to current members to follow Mrs. Steen’s example of civic involvement and Christian Stewardship.”

A group of philanthropists founded the Rye Foundation in 2001 in Winston-Salem because they believed North Carolina needed a new charitable foundation to focus solely on the needs of children. The foundation’s name comes from the first letter of three focus areas — Religion, Youth and Education.

The foundation awarded its first grant, $25,000, to the Billy Graham Training Center in Asheville. Its largest grant to date, $65,000, went to the Rye Foundation House at Camp Caraway in Asheville.

A board of directors makes policy and funding decisions. Gifts are limited to charitable groups based in North Carolina, and every grant must:

• Help children and youth.

• Be in North Carolina.

• Have a spiritual component.

Serve the Need qualified for this grant based on the above criteria.  The Clayton Women’s Club has worked with our organization in the past and remembered our mission of helping those in need; man, woman and child.

Tom Ricks, President, explains the role of Serve The Need volunteers for the food distribution.  Pick up from either Food Lion or Lowes Foods and bring to Clayton Area Ministries (CAM) distribution warehouse in Clayton.

Serve the Need plays a vital role in helping feed the hungry in both Clayton and Four Oaks communities.  Volunteers are always needed to help with this important ministry.
